Governance Structure

TBCLC consists of two types of members: individual and organizational. The current governance structure includes three directors, who are the founding members of the Co-operative.

The Board of Tidal Bay Community Land Co-operative plays a key role in providing ethical and principled leadership. Among its responsibilities, the Board sets the strategic direction for the land co-operative, approves the budget, oversees development projects, admits new community co-operative members, and establishes policies, processes, and procedures.

Karen Brodeur

President
  • Director, Co-operative Housing Development for the CHF Canada.
  • Brings over 25 years co-op housing experience including leadership and experience in growing the sector, amalgamations, governance, and operations.
  • Holds a Master of Management Co-operatives and Credit Unions from Saint Mary’s University, completing her thesis on scale and housing co-operatives.
  • Developed and is a founding Board member of Compass Nova Scotia Co-operative Homes and The Range Housing Co-operative Limited.

Dion Whyte

Treasurer
  • Director at New Commons Development; leads the BC-based team and directs NCD’S Small Communities Projects.
  • 12 years of experience in sustainable community development, social enterprise and affordable housing
  • Extensive experience in the public, private and non-profit sectors with an understanding of the potential opportunities available to communities and the strategies necessary to deliver successful developments.

Kim Weiman

Vice President
  • Chief Executive Officer of The Community Housing Management Network.
  • Holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ryerson University.
  • Over 20 years property management experience.
    Extensive experience in working with projects in difficulty.
