Governance Structure

TBCLC consists of two types of members: individual and organizational. The current governance structure includes three directors, who are the founding members of the Co-operative.

The Board of Tidal Bay Community Land Co-operative plays a key role in providing ethical and principled leadership. Among its responsibilities, the Board sets the strategic direction for the land co-operative, approves the budget, oversees development projects, admits new community co-operative members, and establishes policies, processes, and procedures.

Karen Brodeur

President

Director, Co-operative Housing Development for the CHF Canada.
Brings over 25 years co-op housing experience including leadership and experience in growing the sector, amalgamations, governance, and operations.
Holds a Master of Management Co-operatives and Credit Unions from Saint Mary’s University, completing her thesis on scale and housing co-operatives.
Developed and is a founding Board member of Compass Nova Scotia Co-operative Homes and The Range Housing Co-operative Limited.

Dion Whyte

Treasurer

Director at New Commons Development; leads the BC-based team and directs NCD’S Small Communities Projects.
12 years of experience in sustainable community development, social enterprise and affordable housing
Extensive experience in the public, private and non-profit sectors with an understanding of the potential opportunities available to communities and the strategies necessary to deliver successful developments.

Vice President

Chief Executive Officer of The Community Housing Management Network.
Holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ryerson University.
Over 20 years property management experience.
Extensive experience in working with projects in difficulty.
